Everything You Need To Know About Infrared

There are many different wireless technologies available currently. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are the most talked about resources, as these options are available on most devices now. Of course, there are other options also. A wireless adapter is often used for computer mice and other hardware, while infrared is a feature available on some computer systems and external devices. Infrared came out as one of the first wireless options, and although it is not often used anymore, it is still featured in some equipment.

Infrared is a wireless signal that is sent from a source device into a receiving device. It functions much like your television and it’s remote control. When you point the remote control at a television and push one of the command buttons, the television obeys (as long as the batteries are fresh, of course). This works the same with computer technology. As long as the two devices are directly pointed at one another, the equipment is able to communicate with each other. When a wireless command is fired off from the source device, the receiving equipment accepts the command, then processes the information. This functions adequately, until one device is pushed away, in which case the two devices are unable to communicate, as the wireless signal is not received.
