SAMSUNG’S FAMILY HUB REFRIGERATOR

Available this spring and announched at CES 2016, Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerator is huge. Four doors, 21.5-inch touchscreen (Gorilla Glass). This is an extension of the home IoT.

At $5000, again, this is not practical.  It is news, and current state technology.

Food Inventory?
Built-in cameras record the internal contents each time the doors are closed, with access from your smartphone.

Samsung has partnered with MasterCard on an app to purchase merchandise from online retailers, and has announced they’re looking into adding Amazon’s cloud connected technology assistant (Alexa). This is similar to Amazon’s smart speaker Echo.

Notes, Art…
On the outside, notes can be left, links to calendars and artwork added. The external camera can take selfies – so in effect it’s “aware” of what’s in the room too…

Connectivity
This “device” has built-in speakers, music and television streaming (via WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity). Streaming from Samsung Smart TVs is built-in.

This fridge has the ability to join the Samsung hub that ties compatible devices together.

I won’t be getting anything like this anytime soon, but here again look at the technologies being configured together into new products.

I’ll get back to the practical in my next posts….

I’ve been itching to hookup the HD antenna I built to a better tuner in the basement.  And I like to gain more control over my lights.

More on these next.

Please let me know areas of home automation that interest you, projects you’re taking on, questions…
