A Brief Look at the Mini Camera

The newest craze in the world of photography is that of mini digital cameras. The concept of the mini camera is taken very seriously; some of these cameras will easily fit into the palm of your hand and have viewfinders that are so ridiculously tiny as to be completely useless. That’s not to say that the cameras are necessarily bad, though nearly all of them must sacrifice quality and function in order to achieve the minuscule dimensions.

One of the more popular cameras on the market right now is the Vivitar mini digital camera; it can be had for ten to twenty five dollars depending on where you look and will take up to 240 pictures at the lowest quality setting. Generally speaking, the camera has received less than laudatory reviews, with complaints of poor image quality and a more or less worthless viewfinder being the most common. Apparently, with some patience and the right light conditions the quality improves, but the setup or opportunity to do so may not always be available. Here are some popular current mini camera models.

The Mustek GSmart Mini 3 camera is receiving slightly better reviews, though the common complaint of poor and blurred images remains. For whatever reason, the Mini 3 appears to be a step backwards for the company, as its predecessor, the GSmart Mini 2 was treated to a fairly decent reception. Complaints over poor workmanship and flimsy materials also plague the Mini 3 which retails for around a hundred dollars.
The Apitek Mini PenCam, on the other hand, has garnered some positive attention, being touted as providing a decent image and also holding the title as one of the smallest cameras available. Among the complaints about the item is an apparent design flaw that will cause the shutter button to break; the camera, however, has a one year warranty that covers this possible problem. Beyond that, the PenCam performs up to the expectations of most.
When choosing a camera of this size, it is unreasonable to assume you can get one with the same quality as a larger camera. Research carefully before you buy, and consider the Apitek Mini PenCam, as it is currently the most heavily favored on the market.
