Differences between the Lux TX9100E and the Lux Products TX9000TS

The Lux Products TX range of programmable thermostats have won considerable praise from consumer groups and satisfied customers. It is a range of digital programmable thermostats that have been approved by Energy Star because the devices can help to reduce heating and cooling bills considerably. This post will look at the important differences between the Lux TX9100E 7 Day Universal Programmable Thermostat and the Lux Products TX9000TS Touchscreen 7 Day Programmable Thermostat.

The first place to start with a comparison is price. The cheapest place to buy programmable thermostats that also provide 1 year warranties is Amazon.com. The prices fluctuate on this site but the Lux TX9000TS can usually be bought for about $70 and the Lux Products TX9100E can be purchased for $55.

They are both 7 day thermostats with 4 periods to set up per day. Both devices are easy to understand but the TX9000TS has a touchscreen that simplifies programming significantly.

In terms of compatibility the Lux Products TX9100E is better. It can manage 2 stages of heating and 1 stage of cooling as well as multi stage heat pumps. The TX9000TS can only deal with single stage heating, cooling and heat pumps. Both can deal with central air, hot water and gas fireplaces. They are both for 24 volt systems. The Lux Products TX9100E Smart Temp also has the advantage of being able to draw its power from the HVAC system instead of batteries.

Both thermostats can cycle the fan and both can keep the room at a stable temperature. Both have excellent adjustable swing control systems to prevent short cycling.

In terms of other functions, both the Lux TX9100E and the Lux Products TX9000TS have temporary hold, auto change-over and smart recovery. Smart recovery is a great function that takes the guess work out of programming by making sure the set point temperature is reached at the start of a programmed period.

The Lux Products TX9000TS has an audio confirmation and a power monitor to help estimate future utility bills. The Lux Products TX9100E has a useful programmable vacation mode so that the user always returns from holiday to a comfortable house.

Although the functions vary slightly between the TX9100E and the TX9000TS the real difference is touchscreen programming. If you have single stage heating and cooling the only reason to pay the extra money for the Lux TX9000TS is to get a touchscreen thermostat.
